Presenting Telemedicine Platform for Screening Diabetic Retinopathy

A simple and efficient way to screen for diabetic retinopathy
through our telemedicine platform

Telemedicine Platform For
Screening Diabetic Retinopathy

The goal of the project is to provide a reliable, practical, and affordable technology for diagnosing diabetic retinopathy (DR) in primary care settings. Using an AI engine that can automatically recognize the existence of the disease and its stage, it aims to screen diabetes patients throughout the whole nation.

The approach lessens the need to encumber ophthalmologists with normal examination activities and helps the practicing ophthalmologist pinpoint the precise stage of the disease(s).

Only people who are found to have symptoms of DR/DME are sent to an ophthalmologist for further testing and, if necessary, treatment. By doing this, unneeded examinations will cost less for patients, insurers, the government, and patients in terms of both money and time.

The technology uses an AI engine and Deep Learning models to identify if diabetic individuals have Diabetic Retinopathy symptoms. Without the use of dilating drops, the patient’s eyes are tested in a matter of minutes utilizing a straightforward portable eye fundus camera. Simple operators can give tests (after receiving a few hours of training) without the need for physician supervision. The findings are computed by the AI engine and sent to the test operators' and patients' cell phones in a matter of seconds.

If additional medical treatments are required, an automatic referral is made to a treatment center. To abide by privacy laws in most countries, the system separates patient personal information from clinical data.

Reliable, Practical and Affordable

Our Telemedicine Platform for Screening Diabetic Retinopathy leverages AI technology to identify and assess diabetic retinopathy across the country, enabling earlier detection of this potentially sight-threatening disease.

Diabetic retinopathy patients who show signs and symptoms of the disease are referred to an ophthalmologist for further assessment. This approach helps minimize unnecessary costs, both financially and in terms of time investment, for all involved parties--patients, insurers, and governments alike

Optimal for Early Detection

By using Balsamee’s new approach, ophthalmologists can reduce the time required to complete routine examinations and accurately identify disease stages.

The AI system then sends all that data to a central hub which distributes it to hospitals for care and treatment.

How it Works

Diabetic Retinopathy detection is now easier, faster and more accurate with an AI engine powered by deep learning models.

With a simple portable eye fundus camera, patients' eyes can be tested in a matter of minutes without any dilating drops required -- making diagnosis easy and fast.

Telemedicine Platform Makes Screening Simple

Without needing a physician present or extensive training, simple operators are now able to administer tests using AI-powered technology.

Results are then swiftly sent directly to both the operator and patient's phones in seconds.
