How it Works
Mary is the mother of two children. And because she cares about the wellbeing of her family, she has a Family Account on Balsamee which she can access through the web, mobile app, or call center.
This means that Mary has access to secured healthcare records for herself, her children, and her husband. The records are HIPAA compliant and fully compatible with standard data sets such as HL7 and DiCom.
Family History
Mary has access to her entire family’s health history -- including her mother’s case of breast cancer.
And because of that, Mary receives periodical updates and notifications related to her specific concerns and risk issues, especially in relation to breast cancer.
She even receives voice messages on the app to notify her about Balsamee’s breast cancer screening campaign. She follows a live streaming session where a breast cancer specialist from Balsamee’s Care Providers Network talks about the latest advancements in diagnostics, treatments, and therapies available.
She’s convinced that she should go for a checkup.
Booking Your Medical Appointment with Balsameee
Through the app, Mary books a screening session at the nearest care provider available on the app and instantly gets a notification confirmation.
When she arrives at the care provider’s center, her registration is automatically done, and an electronic insurance approval is instantly received.
Mary doesn’t have to wait long before starting the examination. And while she’s waiting, she happens to receive a reminder about her children’s vaccination appointment. She’s able to view all the details through Balsamee’s Vaccination App.
The Post-Examination Process
The examination work list already includes Mary’s full information. Following the examination, she receives a notification that the radiology images and associated reports will be available on her cloud-based health record the same day.
She also receives another notification recommending she visit a nearby specialist. A dedicated Case Manager calls Mary and provides her with further assistance, helping her book the right specialist.
Full Electronic Health Care Record
When Mary visits her next specialist, they are able to view her full electronic healthcare record (EHR). The record includes all her patient history, radiology images, and reports.
The specialist is then able to perform post-processing functions, utilizing the imaging module. They are even more confident by getting confirming the diagnoses on the cloud computed aided detection system (Cloud CAD).
Mary is assigned by the specialist a number of requests, including a lab analysis – that are automatically sent to the partner lab. She receives another notification suggesting different times suggestions to book her appointment, as well as the option to test at home.
Lab results are automatically uploaded to the EHR and can be accessed by both Mary and her authorized caregivers.
A new appointment is booked online. The specialist indicates the provisional diagnosis. They have a conference with a medical colleague to discuss the case, providing Mary with a second opinion for the EHR.
The specialist proposes different treatment scenarios through the Choice Process. A Care & Treatment plan is put in place, highlighting things like medication, interventions, and further investigations.
The prescribed medication is subject to an automatic drug interaction review. All interactions are subject to an insurance policy matching process in order to proceed to the billing stage.
Mary can receive a second opinion from a local or international network of caregivers through the Cross Border Treatment Service.
Through the Balsamee app, she can provide controlled access to her patient version of the EHR. The prescription can be automatically forwarded to a pharmacy partner that checks the list of medications according to the insurance policy terms. Billing is then done accordingly.

The Case Manager will follow the Care & Treatment plan, accompanying Mary through her treatment journey. Chatting and video calls are practical tools for following up.
The Case Manager can remotely view the connected device readings, such as blood pressure, Mary’s pulse, glucose level, and weight.
Meanwhile, Mary joins Balsamee’s online forums that talk about her condition. She receives comforting messages from patients who have similar conditions.
Follow up With Each Condition
Interesting success rates and statistics make Mary hopeful and confident.
The Case Manager involves a psychology specialist to perform continuous care service through and after the treatment interventions. The psychologist can see Mary’s sleeping pattern via the connected sleep tracker. Such remote sessions provide the right level of comfort for patients.
Involving the Family
Mary’s family is well engaged in her Care & Treatment plan through the Community Engagement application.
The application includes dynamic questionnaires which they can answer to better be informed about Mary’s condition.
Care & Treatment Plan
The different components and requested services of the Care & Treatment plan can be received from the network of partners. Patients using the plan have access to higher privileges, discounts, and other integrated services through the loyalty system
Finally, Mary feels well and safe about herself and her family.
